Simhasana Yoga

The lion's pose: wide eyes, open mouth, a roaring exhale that shakes loose everything stuck in the jaw, throat and chest. Serious relief, unserious faces.

What this class entails

Simhasana — lion pose — pairs a kneeling seat with an exaggerated exhale through a wide-open mouth. Around it, Jamine builds a full practice: neck rolls, jaw release, shoulder openers and playful core work.

Desk workers love it for undoing eight hours of clenched jaws and shallow breathing. You'll leave pink-cheeked, loose-shouldered and grinning — it is impossible to roar and stay stressed.

What's included

  • 50-minute guided session with face, voice and breath work
  • Neck, jaw and shoulder release sequence
  • Lion-breath technique card for home practice
  • Ginger tea and a very cheerful room

A typical session

1

Warm the voice

Humming, sighing and gentle neck rolls loosen the throat and jaw before a single roar is attempted.

2

Roar & move

Three rounds of lion's breath inside a kneeling flow, then standing poses that keep the chest wide open.

3

Soften down

Quiet seated breathing and a long savasana. The contrast after all that expression feels wonderful.

Questions

Nervous about roaring in public? Everyone is, for exactly four minutes. Then nobody wants to stop. hello@amberleafyoga.com.

You can start with a silent exhale and join the sound when ready. Most people find the noise is the best part by week two.

Sit this one out if your throat is raw; the exhale work is vigorous. Come back next week — your mat will be waiting.

Completely. The kneeling base is stable, Jamine offers chair options, and nobody is watching anyone else mid-roar.
